It was Thursday afternoon and Carlos was sitting in the back corner of the classroom. The teacher had finally gotten fed up with his rude behavior. Carlos’ biggest problem was not learning. He was a very smart student. His real problem was disturbing others in the room once he finished his work. The other kids thought he was the coolest kid in the entire school because he always had those headphones around his neck. He has been told constantly to leave those headphones at home. None of the kids could understand why he had not gotten in trouble about the headphones long before now. Carlos thought he was smart. He had a trick that he would play on the teachers. He would just have the headphones around his neck but if the teacher asked him to put his music away he would tell her that his cd player was in his locker and that he just had his headphones around his neck. But every once in a while he would put his cd player in his pocket and hook the headphones up to it because he knew the teacher thought all he had was his headphones. Just last week the security guard had taken his headphones and cd player away from him. Carlos had to walk around without it for the whole day. The principal had given it to his sister Sissy. Sissy had promised the principal that she would take it home and give it to their Mom and tell their Mom that Carlos would be suspended if he brought it back to school. Sissy had made a deal with Carlos that she would not tell on him if he promised to never ever bring the cd player to school again. Carlos had agreed to the deal. Surely this time he would keep his promise, right? .....
